Seahawks Prepare For Primetime Showdown With The Patriots

Tonight the Seattle Seahawks will host Cam Newton and the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football. This should be one of the best matchups on Sunday’s slate of games. Russell Wilson and Cam Newton have a lengthy history with one another as they faced off numerous times while Newton was in Carolina. The two QB’s always put on a good show for the fans and that will continue tonight. Let’s take a look at what Seattle needs to do in order to get a victory and start the season 2-0.

Is This Seattle Offense Here To Stay?

In week one the Seahawks shocked everyone by going with a more pass-heavy approach on offense. It worked to perfection. Russell ended the game with over 300 yards and 4 TD’s. The Seattle offense threw the ball 35 times compared to only 20 rushing attempts. In fact, 28 out of the first 38 plays were passing plays. This is unheard of for Pete Carroll who loves to pound the ball and play ball control offense. Seattle played exclusively through Wilson against the Atlanta Falcons. This week they’ll face a tougher task going up against New England’s secondary.

Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are in for a great battle against Patriot CB’s Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson. Gilmore is the reigning DPOY but Wilson won’t shy away from him. I don’t think Bill Belichick will have Gilmore trailing a WR tonight because Metcalf and Lockett are both talented WR’s with neither being a clear-cut number one WR. J.C. Jackson is one of the best deep ball corners in the NFL and I expect Wilson to test that theory with a couple deep shots to DK Metcalf. The Seattle WR’s against the Patriots CB’s is the most intriguing matchup of the game.

The Seahawks will definitely look to get the run game going more in tonight’s game. Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde combined for 44 yards on 13 carries in week one. I think Carson will see at least 15-17 carries tonight in what will be a tough game.  I expect Seattle to come into this game with the same aggressive approach as they did lastThe Patriots have a great defense but that’s no reason to get conservative. Let Wilson cook and carry this team to victory.

Will The Secondary Struggles Continue?

Matt Ryan threw for 450 yards and 3 TD’s against Seattle’s defense in week one. Three different Falcons recorded 100 yards and Seattle had no answers for the Falcons pass game at times. Thankfully they were able to make timely stops making it possible for Seattle to take a big lead in the game. Seattle won’t face the same dynamic passing attack tonight against the Patriots but it’s still something to keep an eye on. Newton threw for 155 yards last week so if he lights it up tonight, there will be cause for concern regarding the CB’s.

Jamal Adams was the biggest bright spot for the defense in week one. He filled the stat sheet and was all over the field. He rushed the QB, blanketed WR’s and TE’s, delivered big hits and he brought a nastiness to the defense that wasn’t present in either 2018 or 2019. With Newton’s rushing ability, Adams will be vital for the defense tonight. The Patriots do a lot of dinking and dunking, getting their WR’s in space so Adams sideline to sideline ability will be big in tonight’s game.

Game Prediction: Seattle Seahawks 26 New England Patriots 21

Russell Wilson and Cam Newton will both deliver in tonight’s game. This will be a tight game but Wilson will lead the Seahawks on a game-winning drive in the final minutes. The Patriots defense will prove to be a tougher test but Seattle will make enough plays on O to ensure victory.
