The New Orleans Saints are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston to a one-year deal to back-up Drew Brees.
Jameis Winston has finally secured a roster spot for the 2020 NFL season. Charles Robinson reports that the New Orleans Saints are expected to sign the quarterback.
Winston spent five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, put up a lot of yards- and turnovers. The Buccaneers chose to go in the direction of signing Tom Brady, thus ending Winston’s run with the team.

Teddy Bridgewater leaving the Saints to sign with the Carolina Panthers left an opening on the depth chart at QB. While the Saints still have Taysom Hill, they don’t seem sold on his ability at the quarterback position.
Ian Rapoport reported that Winston turned down a more lucrative deal elsewhere to learn from Sean Payton and Drew Brees. Staying in the NFC South, Winston will now see his old team at least two times this coming season. While the Buccaneers were able to keep the vast majority of their defense together, it’s a smart move by the Saints to bring in Winston. The Buccaneers have an offense that –on paper– unstoppable and the best way to combat that is by knowing how their defense will play; and who better than Winston, would know their playbook?
